| Ultimate Spider-Man Collection When I first saw the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book, I wasn't that impressed. I thought it was merely a chance to cash in on the movie and nothing more. Boy, I hate it when I'm wrong. I didn't end up reading it regularly until the Venom story-arc but by that time there were 30+ issues that I didn't have that would cost me an arm and a leg to get individually and only slightly less for the trade paperbacks. Thanks to Barnes and Noble and Marvel, I was able to get all of the issues I was missing in a nice hardcover collection. Weighing in at over 900 pages of comics, this book has it all. It covers the beginning of the USM series up through the Venom saga and it's a thrill ride all of the way, and for $40 dollars it's quite a bargain as well. Included in the collection are various notes and designs between volumes, of which this book comprises three. There are interviews with the creators, notes on the genesis of the comic series and a whole lot more to please the collector and give the casual fan a little background on what he's holding. You may be familiar with the Spider-Man saga and the major players but this will be an entirely new read for you. In Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter is back to being a teenager, this time in the 2000s with language and dress updated along with everything else. Instead of a story that has changed with the times, this one is set in our current time so going back to the beginning doesn't offer as many aged ideas and styles as the original classic story did. All the people you remember from the series are here, changed to reflect the current climate. The Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Kraven, Venom, Lizard and even the Rhino have all gotten facelifts and completely redesigned for a fresh new look on the old mythos. If you're looking for something to get you ready for Spider-Man 2, or perhaps just looking for a good read, this book is for you. Pick it up and you'll have an excellent read that you can share with your friends and younger relatives or children as well. The cover says it is a limited edition as well so pick it up now while you can before it's gone for good, or changed into a paperback version. |
