Resident Evil: Apocalypse

There aren’t enough sexy women out there fighting the undead. It’s a shame, I know. Often times we get the girls who are passable in the films and manage to do some undead damage but there are very few hotties of the zombie genre. I’m happy to say that the Resident Evil movies have changed that completely.

You see, in addition to the ever beautiful Milla Jovavich as Alice, the superhuman and super-sexy zombie slayer from the original, now we add Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine, the tube topped, ass-kicking STARS member from the video games. Alone, they are fantastic; together, it’s like looking at the sun of all that is spank-worthy.

We pick up where we left off with the original film. Alice has gotten out of the hospital and Umbrella opened up the Hive again and let loose a horde of zombies. Brilliant. The city goes on lockdown and it’s every man for himself as the zombies start picking apart pockets of resistance. Cue the scientist who wants his daughter who failed at being extracted by Umbrella before hell broke loose. He contacts teams led by Alice and Carlos, an ex-Umbrella soldier, to save her before she dies. There’s one catch. It was decided that this type of disaster is a perfect time to try out the latest bio-weapon, a big, leather clad badass zombie named Nemesis. He’s a hulk-like killing machine that’s armed to the teeth. Can the two groups survive the zombies and this new menace? Probably, with lots of bourbon.

This movie isn’t really horror. It’s more of an action movie starring zombies. There are some scary parts but mainly it’s just constant ass kicking, which isn’t a bad thing. There needs to be more ass kicking in zombie movies. The cast does a great job, especially the lovely ladies, who will leave the male members of the audience panting and drooling for more at Milla’s complete willingness to do nude scenes. The directing is competent and the plot segues nicely into the video game world while taking few liberties. The make-up and special effects were top notch, resulting in some great looking zombies and an awesome Nemesis.

My only complaints would be about the shakycam/frame dropping used to show some of the zombies walking. It looks like crap and is very jarring compared to the rest of a very slick film. All in all, well worth the price of admission, particularly if you were a fan of the first movie. Check it out.
