Transformers - PS2

There has never been a good Transformers game. Every one I've played that wasn't a hacked form of some other game has been complete crap. Fortunately, the good people of Melbourne house and Atari have heard the cry of fans for an awesome game and delivered in spades with this third-person shooter.

Instead of my beloved Generation One Transformers, we are instead playing as the Autobots from the Armada series. You don't need to know the plot or any story details from the series except that you're fighting against the Decepticons to save the Minicons who are little robots that power you up and give you cool weapons.

You can play as three different Autobots - Optimus Prime, Red Alert and Hot Shot. Each robot has their own stats that suit them better to different levels. You can transform each into their alternate mode and zoom around levels to get their faster. You'll need it too, since the levels, in addition to being gorgeously rendered and mapped, are freaking ginormous.

The enemies come in basic cannon fodder flavors, with the main bosses being the Decepticons from the tv show, well most of them. They put up a good fight too, be it boss or lackey. You can just run and gun it here, especially on the hardest difficulty where enemies will surround you and defeat you if you don't use some smarts.

The game is short but exhausting, having you revisit levels to find Minicons that you might have missed and data-cons to unlock extra features. The controls are tight and transforming is a snap and fun to do as you run over enemies. Check it out and give it a buy so we can get a sequel or a proper Gen One game out to play by these guys.
