| May I had been reading about this movie for awhile and thanks to a deal at the video store, I rented it on the cheap to see how it was and if it lived up to all the hype. I must say that it does. This tale is a slow building boiler of horror that centers around a lonely girl named May, played by Angela Bettis, and her journey to find a friend/lover. She works as an assistant in a vet's office and cuts up animals and herself and plays with her doll which is her best friend. She soon discovers companionship in a film making man and her lesbian co-worker but will either accept her quirks and how will she deal with them if they reject her? This is a well acted and crafted story about being awkward and weird and looking for something that eludes you and the ends that you might go to achieve it. The only thing I can't believe is that May has never kissed a boy because Angela Bettis is smoking and there has to be someone out there ready to kiss a hottie with a lazy eye. She turns in a fine performance, as does Anna Faris and Jeremy Sisto with top notch directing from Lucky McKee, who I hope to see more greatness from. There is plenty of gore and painful scenes, especially the one involving some blind kids. It's awesome and well worth checking out. Give it a shot and give it some time. It might move slow but the payoff is worth the long wait. |
