| Ichi the Killer I love Asian cinema. They have a tendency to go all out and provide some of the most entertaining and violent films ever made and this movie is no exception. It seems the boss of the Anjo gang has gone missing. In reality he has been thoroughly decimated by Ichi, a crazy quiet man who wears a costume and kills with blades on his feet. He slices and dices and kills in a truly comic book fashion. As Anjo's men look for their boss, they pick up the trail of Ichi and start conflicts with other gangs in the area and the blood continues to flow as they all converge on a final battle. This movie is a great stylistic thriller/comedy and plays out like a live action manga. The kills are bloody and the results look like a slaughterhouse. Takashi Miike, the director of this film, is a true genius of the art form. He pushes boundaries and seems to show a great joy in showing the seemier side of life. If you aren't the squeamish type and enjoy a fun and violent ride, this film is for you. |
