Freddy vs. Jason

After years of waiting and speculation, the movie that many have been clamoring for has finally come out. With a title and premise like this one, you would expect the movie to be nothing less than horrible. Surprisingly, the movie delivers on various levels with an interesting plot and enough carnage to satisfy any gorehound.

The basic story goes like this. Freddy has been in hell and stuck there because everybody topside has forgotten him thanks to the wonder drug, Hypnocil, which stops dreams. In order to bring back the fear and his name into the hearts of Springwood, Freddy deceives Jason into helping him. Well Jason starts a killing and Freddy gains some power, but will it be enough when some teens are onto the scheme and trying to stop the two murderers from killing them all?

A hokey plot, but one that gets the two masters of mayhem together so they can kill lots of people in great ways. Jason wins the body count game, straying little from his machete as weapon of choice and lumbering like the unstoppable tank that he is. Freddy is the narrator of the story and breaks the 4th wall down a bit but remains in menacing character with a return to the hideous makeup from the earlier films, not the bad sunburn he had towards the end of the series. The body count is high and there are enough spraying arteries to give people the gross out they need. A well executed movie that fails only towards the end in the inevitable battle between Jason and Freddy, where Freddy runs around like the Flash and uses kung fu against Jason. It was necessary though because one hit from the master of hack and Freddy would be dead again so they had to draw it out somehow.

Hopefully this won't spark any other crossovers like the Pinhead vs. Michael Myers rumor that has been floating around, or give us an unnecessary sequel. We saw the titan fight, and it was good. Now the creative teams should work on reviving the individual series and give them some much needed revamps. Check it out.
