| Ella Enchanted When my wife takes over the Netflix account, I don't have much say in what we're going to watch that night. This is one of those times. The story is fairly original. A young girl in a fantasy kingdom is cursed with the gift of obedience, so no matter what, she has to do whatever you say. Pretty cool, huh? It's even better that this girl is played by the lovely Anne Hathaway. Well, she gets tired of having to do everything she's told, especially after she gets new sisters when her father remarries, so she leaves to find her fairy godmother who gave her the damn gift in the first place. Along the way, she finds help in the form of an elf who wants to be a lawyer and the prince of the kingdom. It's a fun movie. Much better than expected, filled with real fantasy and some musical numbers too, which are even more fun since they're of relatively contemporary songs in the vein of Moulin Rouge. I'm a sucker for musicals and this one does pretty well with them and the cast all around is likeable and the story doesn't overstay it's welcome. If you're looking for a chick flick to endure with your woman, you can't do too badly by bringing this home. |
