The Dead Hate the Living Sometimes it's slim pickings in the world of the zombie movie. What movies we do get are usually bad but occasionally the gems to come, some a little rougher than others. The Dead Hate the Living is one such gem. I know I made it sound like I hate this movie in my journal entry, but I did enjoy it even though some of the material is a little fanboyish for my taste. It's also heads better than that piece of crap known as Shatter Dead. The story takes place in an abandoned hospital where an independent film crew is shooting their zombie film. There's the idealist director, the hopeful makeup artist, the pretty assistant, the bitchy actress, the stoner and more. In a break from filming and location scouting, the crew happens upon a strange video and even stranger device and one very dead corpse. If deciding to use the machine in the film is a bad idea, then putting the corpse inside it and turning it on as part of the film is an even worse one. It happens that the machine opens a portal to the world of the dead, resurrecting the corpse and sending a team of zombies to kill the hapless film crew. Can they escape? Can any more movie references be shoved down our throats? Watch and find out! A fun film that works with a low budget and comes out with some nice effects despite a pretty hokey script. There is some decent gore and a few surprises and a whole lot of lack of common sense. Give it a watch one night if you're bored and have a couple of drinks. It'll pass the time and you can see if you can spot all the movie homages in a sitting. |
