| Lovecraft by Hans Rodionoff H.P. Lovecraft is truly one of the greatest writers of macabre fiction. His creations of otherworldly horror are still read today and frighten with the tales of great eldritch beasts and unspeakable horrors that lurk on the threshold of this world. His type of prose is hard to translate to the screen but it has been done several times with varying degrees of success and has been attributed for the atmosphere of other unrelated films like Alien. Truly the best medium to translate Lovecrafts creations into visual beasts while retaining the integrity of the story is the comic book. Rodionoff does this with great skill in a beautifully illustrated and written tale that begs the question: What if the monsters that Lovecraft wrote about were not merely made up but inspired by real-life creatures that he protected us from? We follow a young Howard Phillips Lovecraft as a boy as he discovers the dread Necronomicon in his father's book collection and firsts opens a gate to the other world. He grows up and begins a career of writing about his experiences in order to warn the people of the world that there are things that we cannot comprehend out there that want to destroy us and reclaim the world for their own. A fantastic read and filled with the creatures that populate the fiction of Lovecraft, this book is a must have for fans of the late, great master and for anyone who likes a good and scary tale. |
