Beyond Re-Animator

When we last left our hero, Dr. Herbert West-Re-Animator, I'm pretty sure he was being torn apart by a bunch of zombies. It appears he survived to continue his experiments and was arrested and sent to prison instead. Here he has devised a new procedure to go with the serum we know and love in order to conquer death completely. And he's not alone.

After witnessing his sister's death at the hands of one of West's creations, young Howard Phillips devoted his life to medicine and years later has taken the newly vacant position of prison doctor at the institution that West is incarerated in. Together they start some more shenanigans that ends with with a bunch of walking corpses trying to take over the prison and everyone fighting for their lives.

This is a great popcorn movie, done with love by the producer of the original movie and director of the sequel, Brian Yuzna. There are some great gore moments and it's nice to see Jeffrey Combs back to his old tricks as Dr. West as he corrupts his assistant and tries to find a way out so he can continue his experiments in earnest. A good way to pass the time with some zombies and bloodshed and a little bit of nudity here and there as well. If you liked the first two films, you should give his a watch as it adds some new parts to the saga of the Re-Animator and gives us another franchise with sequels that don't suck.
