New New Warriors

New Warriors (The Initiative)

Marvel, Rated T+

So this week we've got a sneak peak of New Warriors (The Initiative) #1. First off, what book at Marvel these days isn't labeled "The Initiative"? Especially a book about vigilantes? How are they part of The Initiative? Lame. Anyway, getting to the book. Hadn't heard of the writer or artist (at least not off the top of my head), so I wasn't sure what to expect. The book starts off with a nice action sequence of the new team taking down the Gray Gargoyle. Nice short and sweet intro. The book then lost me for a while as we follow an ex-mutant named Sophia around for a while. Took me a while to figure out who it was (the only way you'll get it is if you have read the Academy X New X-Men series that launched a few years ago). Anyway, after the first few pages with the Gray Gargoyle nothing really happened for most of the book. It is really just setting up the story of the new team and that will probably take a few issues I imagine. I must say though, once I figured out who the character was, it drew my interest more than I thought it would (this coming form a New X-Men fan though). Should be interesting to see where this one is going...I definitely like it better than it's pro-registration counter-part Avengers: The Initiative.

Overall Rating: C+
